What is Measure C?
A county measure requiring voter approval to convert agricultural zoning to residential zoning when outside city limits, until 2040.
Why do we need it?
Our Supervisors will make better decisions with citizen oversight. Residents and farmers are fed up with Supervisors’ decisions to approve sprawling developments that double-tax city residents and impact farmers’ rights to farm. Measure C directs housing into cities, which provide cost-effective police, fire, water, sewers and roads.
Why is our agriculture so important?
We depend on our very rare climate and soil for 35% of our jobs. Future generations depend on us to protect their source of food.
Why now?
Speculation hasn’t stopped, developers are still buying up farmland. We have available city land, 44,000 foreclosures and county lots for 22,000 homes. Let’s build on our residential land, not farmland.
Will this stop growth?
No. In other counties, voters have approved over 50% of projects. Measure C doesn’t affect commercial and industrial land at all.
